Korean Air's merger with Asiana has received final approval from the European Commission (EC).
Following a review by the EC on November 28, the Seoul, South Korea-based carrier reported it has fulfilled all the conditions for the proposed merger with Asiana Airlines.
In February 2024, the EC granted conditional approval for the merger subject to two requirements issued to Korean Air – the divestiture of Asiana's freighter business, and the allocation of flight slots to a competing carrier on four routes to/from Europe (Barcelona, Frankfurt, Paris, and Rome).
Since the conditional approval was granted, Korean Air has designated South Korean budget carrier T'way Air as the remedy airline for the European airline. Air Incheon has been approved to purchase Asiana Airlines' freighter business.
Following the approval of the Korean Air-Asiana merger by the EC, the airline now awaits approval from the United States government to complete the merger.
